LL.M. for International Students

Application Basics

  • Applications for the LL.M. may be submitted from September 1 through April 30.
  • Applicants must have completed (or expect to complete) a law degree from a university outside the United States.
  • If the language of instruction at the school conferring your law degree is not English, you must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the IELTS.
  • LL.M. students begin their studies in the fall semester.
  • The application fee is $50.00 (US).

Vanderbilt offers three LL.M. degree tracks:
  • Course Track: Focus on Coursework
  • Law & Business Track: Focus on Corporate Law
  • Thesis Track: Focus on Research

Vanderbilt also offers one LL.M. joint-degree program, the LL.M. / M.A. in Latin American Studies

This two-year program requires course work in the Law School and in Latin American Studies, and a final thesis. Students normally pursue their course work over the first three semesters, devoting the bulk of their time in the fourth semester of study to the completion of the thesis.
