LLM Bar Practice

Application

  • Application is made through the Bar Students Application Service (see here).

Requirements:

  • Applicants must either have obtained a Qualifying Law Degree, passed the Graduate Diploma in Law or otherwise have satisfied the Bar Standards Board requirements to embark on the vocational stage of training. All students are required to join one of the four Inns of Court before they commence the BPTC.
  • Applicants must pass the Bar Course Aptitude Test (BCAT) introduced by the Bar Standards Board (BSB) in 2012. The test is compulsory and requires prospective students to achieve a minimum standard as specified by the BSB (more here).


  • English Language Requirements: It is in the interests of all students, therefore, that all those who enrol on the programme are fluent in both written and oral English.

  • Opinion Writing
  • Criminal Litigation, Evidence and Sentencing
  • Civil Litigation, Evidence and Remedies
  • Civil Advocacy
  • Professional Ethics 1

All students choose two specialist options (see here).

The LLM programme requires students to undertake a project of 15,000 – 17,000 words in a subject linked to an area of study under the BPTC.
