Entry Requirements:

• German First State Examination or equivalent University Law Degree.
• Evidence of skills in the language of the relevant partner university: for studies in Prague, basic knowledge of Czech is required.
• Almost all the lectures and seminars in Dresden are held in German. Therefore, applicants whose native language is not German will have to provide evidence of their German skills. German language skills must be shown by language certificates, e.g. 'Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang ausländischer Studenten' (DSH-Exam), 'Zentrale Oberstufenprüfung des Goethe Institutes' or 'Deutsches Sprachdiplom der Kultusministerkonferenz Stufe 2' (further information is available at: www.goethe.de or www.fadaf.de).

Study Programme

The one-year LL.M. course is divided into 4 parts : 

1. During winter semester (October-January), the students study at one of the international partner universities : University of Exeter (UK), Queen Mary Intellectual Research Institute in London (UK), the Karl University in Prague (Czech Republic), the Jagiellonen University in Krakow (Poland), the Centre ´d'Etudes Internationales de la Propriété Industrielle in Strasbourg (France) or the University of Washington in Seattle (USA).
2. In February and March, students studying in Exeter, London, Cracow, Prague and Szeged have to complete an internship of 4 to 6weeks in a specialized law firm, legal department of a company, a patent court or another institution focussing on Intellectual Property Law to gain practical work experience. 
   
3. The Summer Semester (starting in April) is spent at the Dresden University of Technology. This semester consists of lectures and seminars on Patent and Trademark, Copyright, Media and Competition Law. Students may complete their knowledge by choosing two basic subjects, for example from the field of general business, International and European Law. Besides, we offer a weekly panel with practitioners like IP lawyers and patent judges giving lectures on special legal problems of their daily work-life.
4. At the end of the year (July-September), students have complete a final thesis (from mid July - mid September). In consultation with Professor Götting they can choose the subject themselves. The best thesis is awarded a prize of € 1000 by the law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.
